Lateral Settlement

Lateral Deflection of Basement Wall (“bowing”)

Realignment of Basement Wall
It is not uncommon for a basement wall to begin to “bow” over time. This deflection is caused by lateral pressure from the soil outside. Contributing factors may be poor drainage, uncontrolled water, over compaction or inadequate construction design. At USS, we are able to assess your situation and offer the best remedy to meet your structural needs.
I-Beams
I-Beam installation has proven to be the most reliable method of stabilizing a basement wall that is experiencing lateral deflection. The steel wall reinforcing beams provide continuing support, strengthening the wall to resist the earth’s pressure.
Tie-Backs
For retention projects, tie-backs are calculated to match the lateral loads of retained soils. Typical applications include retaining walls, soilcuts and deep excavations.
Core-Filling
Lateral correction by method of filling concrete block cavities with grout once realignment of the wall has been achieved.
Carbon Fiber Strips
Lateral correction by method of bonding vertical carbon fiber strips to the inside of the wall once realignment has been achieved.
Testimonials
Well Worth The Wait
“While I did have to wait awhile before USS could start my work, it was well worth the wait! Your workers were efficient and courteous. That was a pleasant surprise, after the horror stories that I have heard from neighbors who used competing companies.”
